Innovations in American Government Awards

The Virtual Student Foreign Service (VSFS) managed by the Office of eDiplomacy of the Department of State Bureau of Information Resource Management provides unpaid online “eInternship” opportunities for U.S. college students. Students work remotely with State and U.S. Agency for International Development (AID) offices and overseas posts. The problems it addresses are 1) how to access a larger pool of talent to bring to bear on pressing foreign policy issues; 2) how to increase public involvement in government; and 3) how to provide more opportunities for student to learn from working with the State Department and other agencies, including those who may not be able to travel to DC or abroad to participate in an internship.
