Education & Training

Under the direction of Chicago's Mayor Daley, Renaissance 2010 closes underperforming schools and reopens them under a new leadership team who has submitted a proposal and competed for the opportunity to open the new school. In the first round of schools established since the Mayor's proposal, "parents, community leaders and elected officials were involved in planning these new schools and selecting the education teams, all of which include local educators." As many as 18 new schools could open next fall. The school system expects over 100 revamped school administrations by 2010.

The Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLBank) of Atlanta's Affordable Housing Program (AHP) has awarded two major packages of grants and subsidized loans to Horizon Development and FHLBank Atlanta member Bank of America. The AHP is a semi-annual competitive grants program to support housing programs for very low to moderate income families. The funds are funneled through partnerships with FHLBank Atlanta member banks that help create rental and homeownership choices in various communities. Lynn Brazen, a senior FHLBank Atlanta official states, "Beyond providing more affordable rental choices in the Charlotte area, these two housing initiatives represent the success that public-private partnerships can achieve together."
