Manny Diaz was elected as Mayor of the City of Miami on November 13, 2001. Under Diaz’s leadership, Miami is entering an age of renaissance and is positioning itself as a leading city in the hemisphere. As the city has revitalized under his tenure, private investment and development have reached unprecedented levels. At last count, over $20 billion dollars worth of development projects are at various stages of the planning process. In addition, his Office of Faith-Based Initiatives has helped build a strong network between city government, the corporate sector and faith-based organizations. As Governing Magazine noted: “Miami is among the cities moving most aggressively to energize and understand its faith communities, thanks largely to the effort of Mayor Manuel Diaz.”
