Leigh Whelpton is Program Manager of the Conservation Finance Network at Island Press. Leigh earned a master’s degree in environmental science at Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Her master’s research focused on the politics and economics of landscape - level conservation. While at Yale, Leigh worked for the Yale Center for Business and the Environment where she cofounded the Yale Environment Review and helped facilitate the 2012 Yale Conservation Finance Boot Camp training course. She also interned with the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan at the United Nations. Prior to earning her M.E.Sc., Leigh managed research and conservation programs along with implementing training courses for the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Otjiwarongo, Namibia. Leigh holds a B.S. in Conservation and Resource Studies from the University of California at Berkeley, and is currently a fellow with the “Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders” training program.
