The NYC Housing Authority’s residents are often on the wrong side of the digital divide; only 60 percent enjoy Internet access. In order to address this inequity, the NYCHA established two Mobile Computer Vans with laptops, a printer/scanner, and wireless access, visiting 18 developments biweekly throughout the city to bring access to its residents. Each van is also staffed with an instructor to assist, whether applying for a job, paying rent, communicating with family, or simply, for many, learning how to use a computer and software for the first time.
