Efforts of the Millantú Youth Group been have oriented to the recovery and conservation of Fundo Nonquén, a reserve of more than 7,400 acres that is under threat of indiscriminate harvesting of firewood for domestic use. To stop these incursions into the protected forest, members of the Community Network Community Network of Chiguayante for the Protection of the Fundo Nonguén have developed a diversified strategy. By mobilizing many public and private sector organizations, activists have been able to draw on a wider array of funding and local support for large-scale media campaigns to educate the public about the importance of environmental conservation.
The Community Network is a series of partnerships between the Millantú Youth Group, national and international civil society organizations (including the World Bank), and private companies, which demonstrates the effective mobilization of multiple social actors toward protecting Fundo Nonguén's forests. The youth involved in this initiative in Chiguayante have also dedicated profits from their own craft projects to the preservation and upkeep of the Fundo Nonguén natural sanctuary.
