Event description: Sex trafficking is an international crisis, and a rising global health concern. A study conducted by Dr. Jay Silverman of the Harvard School of Public Health (2007) found that 38 percent of trafficked victims repatriated to Nepal were positive for the HIV virus. For those victims forced into prostitution under the age of 15 years, the infection rate exceeded 60 percent.
The webinar was co-moderated by Ambassador Swanee Hunt and Ambassador John Miller with panelists Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Dr. Mohamed Mattar, and Congresswoman Linda Smith.
