New York City's Center for Economic Opportunity was established by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg to design, implement, and evaluate unique initiatives that combat urban poverty among New York City's low-income workers, at-risk youth, and families with children. As this episode of PBS' Visionaries shows, CEO takes a unique, results-driven approach to fighting poverty. If a program is not working, it is eliminated, while programs that are making a difference are replicated across the city and now around the country. CEO won the 2011 Innovations in American Government Award.
